Teas to Try During Your Next Tea Party

Tea Facts

You might think twice before squeezing the rest of the liquid your teabag holds, into your cup of tea. Not only do you risk breakage and causing the loose tea to fall into your tea, squeezing a teabag can release something called tannins which are trapped in the tea leaves. When they are squeezed, they make the tea taste bitter and acidic. A better alternative is to allow the bag to drain naturally or just set it aside in another dish or container.

This Week's Featured Tea: Ginger Date Tea

This recipe makes two servings.

Note:

Use fresh ginger root to enhance this botanical tea by boiling ginger until it releases the slightly peppery sweet aroma. Ginger Date tea is great for any tea party or as a middle-of-the day pick me up.

Ingredients:

2 Tablespoons shaved fresh ginger root

4 cups water

Fresh juice from half a lemon

1 generous tablespoon date syrup

How to Prepare:

1. Place ginger and water in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil.

2. Lower heat to medium-low and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until liquid becomes fragrant.

3. Strain and stir in the lemon juice and date syrup and serve.

Caution:

Always research or check with your physician to make sure the ingredients of any tea is compatible with your currently, prescribed medications.
